Ola Is Looking To Push Into Australia's Taxi Market By 2018, Amidst Uber Rivalry

India’s very own Ola had a big announcement to make today. The ride-hailing company has declared that it’s about to enter the Australian market, it’s very first venture outside India, and it wants to take on Uber.

Ola plans to invite private vehicle owners and drivers to partner up with it in Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth, and expects to start operations by early 2018.
In fact, Ola actually believes Uber’s Australia arm may have made its work easier, because regulations are already in place and drivers know how it all works, a senior analyst at research firm Forrester told Reuters. “Cab sharing isn’t very new anymore and everyone is ready, but Ola may find it more expensive to lure customers and drivers initially,” he said.
This could be a big step for Ola, which has been embroiled in a fierce battle with Uber here in India for the past few years. Ola currently has a majority share in the country’s $12 billion taxi market, with operations in more than 110 cities.
