Priyanka Chopra’s Vogue Interview Sees Her Admitting That Endorsing A Fairness Cream Was A Bad Decision For Her

Priyanka Chopra is just another pretty face. But you knew that already.

Priyanka Chopra
An international sensation, charming, talented yakety-yak. The woman is great at what she does and again – you already knew that. But like most Indian celebs, there are some elements from her early years.Elements that might require a little justification in the cultural climate of 2017.
Mainly, her endorsement of Garnier Light Fairness Moisturiser back when her career was taking off.

It could be argued that judging actions of the past by modern standards is not necessarily logical. But honestly, by that logic, we’d never head anywhere. Which is why it is really refreshing to see a mainstream actor admitting that they regret doing something that probably made them a lot of money. Like, rent for 5 months money.

In an excerpt from a Vogue interview by Mira Jacob, Priyanka says –

She goes on to explain that before 15 she had a ton of insecurities to deal with. Being dusky, skinny, gawky and not what most people might deem attractive. And that her looks post 15 got a lot of attention that boosted her ego. Making her feel a bit more accepted in a country where women who aren’t fair are pitied. To this day even, with words like “Oh, poor thing, she’s dark,” being thrown in their faces.

She attributes this confidence to her parents. And how they made sure both she and her brother were treated equally.

We constantly accept that celebrities are rehearsed. That there even though there might be sincerity behind what they say there is rarely spontaneity. But when one at the peak of her career is willing to speak up and admit that something in their past was a genuine mistake. That is made them feel like they’d betrayed their conscience.
It’s great to have young girls of Dominican descent head over to an Indian actress and say“Everyone tells me that I look like you. You gave me the strength to stand up onstage and give a presentation in school on where I came from.

Kudos to Priyanka Chopra, we can’t wait to see the rest of the interview!
