YouTube is one of the most popular websites on the internet, where you see loads of videos ranging from music, educational, travel and beauty and just about everything. Youtube has the biggest library of videos for everything. However, not many know that the website was initially designed for the dating purpose.   1. 1.  The website site was founded by Chad Hurley, Steven Chan and Jawed Karim. They uploaded the first video that included one of the founders, Steven Chen at the San Diego Zoo, the video was called “Me at the zoo”.


  2. One of the founders Chad hurley designed the Youtube logo and all three knew each other from their jobs at PayPal.


  3. Google purchased Youtube in 2006  for $1.65 billion in stocks, within 18 months after it was created.


  4. The first video to hit 1 million views ad of Ronaldinho for Nike, called “Touch of gold”.


  5. Countries such as Brasil, China, Bangladesh and Turkey has banned Youtube in the respective countries


  6. The longest video on YouTube is a slideshow by Jonathan Harchick, which runs for 571 hours, 1 minute and 41 seconds.

  7. The first video on YouTube to hit 1 billion views was “Gangnam Style” overtaking Justin Bieber’s video “Baby”.

  8. The most disliked video was Rebecca Black’s “Friday” song, which was disliked by 3.1 million people before it was removed.

  9. An average user access the website 14 times in a month and the US alone contribute 70% of the YouTube traffic.

  10. The most subscribed channels on YouTube include PewDiePie and Smosh.

  11. If you pause a video, and then click the left and up arrow, you can play the secret game of Snake.

  12. There are more than 10,000 advertising partners including Chanel 4, Turner and Disney and the number of ads on YouTube has  increased 1,000% in the last year.
